Dollar rate down in Iraqi central bank auction
    By Dergham Mohammed Ali
Baghdad, July 6, (VOI) – The U.S. dollar declined in the daily auction of Iraq’s Central Bank on Thursday fetching 1,476 dinars down from 1,478 dinars the day before.
Demand for the U.S. currency rose to $42.590 million, including $28.610 in cash, from $36.300 million on Wednesday, the central bank said in a statement.
Owners of exchange offices said the decline in the exchange rate in the central bank auction would not reflect on the market rate.
"The central bank pumps dollars into the market to maintain the level of dollars in the local market at close rates. In the past the market was affected by dollar withdrawals," Ali al-Dawoodi, owner of the Fanar exchange office, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).
"The withdrawal of $100,000 or $300,000 from the market used to be enough to raise the exchange rate. Now this is out of the question," he added.
He said the market rate nowadays remained in a tight range around 1,480-1,495 dinars to the dollar. The rate usually goes up on Thursdays because it is the last working day of the week, he said.

I saw in April 2006 National Geographic

    color or money

    Iraqi dinar

has pic of old saddam 10,000 dinar note, and below it new 10,000 dinar note.

it says "The new Iraqi Dinar was launched in October 2003 at an exchange rate of 1,500 dinars to one US dollar. As it's worth fluctuates, investors flock to place bets on the currency, which they hope will stabilize and climb in value. "

It's a full page article. I ran across it last night just thumbing through some magazines on a table at work.
