I was thinking that also Treater ...Perhaps a "congratulations" visit..."look what WE'VE done" visit... hmmmmm...will the revaluation happen BEFORE or AFTER the visit?

If the opening of the ISX in the beginning of August...I believe we are all in the same line of thinking that the peg/reval NEEDS to happen befo*****d....
and I've said a couple times that a 1:1 doesn't seem like that far of a stretch (IMO) seeing as though it would only be 1/3 of what it was valued at before! (actually LESS if you look at the figure 3.41!)

    So close everybody!

    I
I say that it may be more signifigant that it may appear for a couple different reasons. One of which I can't discuss. But on the surface it is really intersesting how after Bush paid Maliki and Co a suprise face to face visit, all of the sudden the news of a upcoming RV starts flowing out in the press, all kinds of progress is being made on the FI front, and Maliki has been working at a fever pace ever since that visit from Bush, and now they just can't get enough of each other lately, hmmmm. It is very exciting.

Also it is my gut feeling is that there wouldn't be this much effort put into all of this if it was going to result in a dud.

    Good morning, everyone...

Sure are a lot of rumors and opionions floating around about the dinar!

As I try to sort through my own thoughts about this, I realize that one thing is not clear to me:

Why is it stated that the dinar must be revalued before the foreign investment laws are passed? And haven't those laws just been passed in the Kurdish north already? And what about the automation of the ISX? How does this fit into the hoped for revaluation?

Thanks to whover (Mike?) can help me understand this.

I remain cautiously optimistic about the dinar.....looking for clarity only.

    Caroline,

The timing of reval vs. FI law enactment is only an opinion as far as I know but my personal opinion is that the reval needs to happen before the FI law IS PUT INTO EFFECT. My reasoning, as others have said before, is that is the only way that Iraq will actually get a fair price for the real assets that are purchased by foreigners under the new law. I do not know the status of the FI law that was passed in the north. Is it actually in effect yet? All of this reasoning is exactly the same for the opening if the ISX to foreign investors. I understand the the PM said in Saudi Arabia recently that the FI law would be in place (?) by early August. To the best of my knowledge the ISX opening has not been pinned down other than 3rd quarter.
