As far as the new investment law passed today...

Kurdistan seems to be a few steps ahead of the rest of Iraq in just about everything. As a matter of fact, Iraq seems to be playing catch up with the Kurds at almost ever juncture. So today, Kurdistan, which is flourishing in just about all areas, announces they have passed a foreign investment law aimed at bringing in foreign interest and money to the region, the same reasons given by the Iraq parliament for passing the foreign investment law they have before parliament. In a way, they are acting like Iraq is 2 different countries, or at least having 2 different governments. One thing for sure is the Iraq parliament does not shoot down anything that Kurdistan passes or implements, for that matter the parliament appears to be learning from the Kurds.

This law passed today is not the foreign investment law we have been anticipating. However, seeing how parliament follows and learns from the Kurds, it does seem to make the law we are waiting to be passed inevitable, just not to fruition yet. Red tape, so to speak.

What we have to remember is that things change on a dime in Iraq, and delays in almost everything involved with government are a given. Look how long it took for the actual voting for the cabinet took for instance. Those looking for a date for a reval are in for many disappointments. All we can do is as we have been doing, continue to gather info as a group and consolidate it into one area, here is good. From all that info, we will be able to follow the timeline and I guarantee that this group here will be much more prepared for what is to happen than most anyone else.

I see the Iraq government's foreign investment law passing sometimes in September, and if you can find it on here, I posted a date of Sept.17 for a reval announcement date. No inside info, just putting together pieces. For afterall, anyone can pull a date out of a hat, correct /wink

Something of this magnitude could definately put a damper on progress of any kind in Iraq.

Well I am not taking sides in this battle over there. I dont support either side. But I will say this. The Israelies have gone WAY overboard and done much damage this time.(killing 34 children today in an airstrike, UN peacekeepers, bombing red cross vehicles, houses, communities) I have studied middle east history for years and this ALL goes back to 1948 when the Isrealies stepped in and took over the land there (given to them by Britain and the US). There has been friction every since. And it is not going away.

    Funny,

Complicated indeed, so much more so because of politics. With democracy comes the typical BS involved in all politics, the power plays, the inside power plays, etc., so hang in there, all the pieces of puzzle are finalized, but they just have to be fit together, and this is the trick. The revalue is just one of the pieces, so when that piece is put in place, all the other pieces will follow to complete this puzzle called democracy.

    Good luck to all, Mike

This is the most important recent event and one we should all keep close eyes on, as far as our investment is concerned. Unfortunately, this too will likely be put in check until the Israel situation is resolved...

UN, Iraq initiate international development compact
(MENAFN) The Iraqi government and the United Nations have launch an International Compact backed by the World Bank and aims to help Iraq, Middle East Times reported.

The Compact will bring the international community and multilateral organizations together to help Iraq achieve its National Vision over five years.

The main goal of the compact is to set up a structure for Iraq's economic transformation and integration into the regional and global economy.

An executive committee including Iraq and UN officials, the World Bank, the IMF, and other regional financial institutions will oversee the compact.

Thanks Jetsa.. your post 4901 does clarify some of the issues and with the daily developments and re-actions in the middle east.. it does confirm to me that this possibility of war... could surpass and effect any time frame that may have been in place... guess it literally is a day to day struggle to see which direction things will go...? Thanks everyone who is sharing thoughts at this .. I guess we can't get all the answers we want.. it helps to sort through the concerns..

Geez, here I am posting all this conjecture without proper disclaimers. I hope you all do realize that all that I say is purely my opinions as we all have opinions.

    Apologies to all

Just remember, there is strenght in numbers. The more information we as a group can collectively gather, the more informed we all are, and that will give us a heads up on the rest when the time is near.
