Cairo hosts int''l exhibition for reconstruction of Iraq
Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) - 06/09/2006
Cairo hosts Wednesday the international conference and exhibition for the reconstruction of Iraq with the participation of a large number of businessmen and investors from Arab and foreign countries, including about 200 Iraqi investors.
Sponsored by the Arab Economic Unity Council, the conference is held in conformity with the decisions adopted during the Arab summit held in Khartoum last March on activating Arab efforts to support the stability of Iraq and to emphasize the Arab participation in the rebuilding of a modern Iraqi state, Council's Secretary General Dr. Ahmed Goweili said in a statement here today.
He pointed out that the Iraqi investors who would participate in these activities would meet with their Arab counterparts to discuss business partnerships and joint investment projects in all fields, including construction, electricity, energy and various commercial activities and investments.
A number of Arab ministers who took part in the meetings of the Arab Economic and Social Council at the Arab League here yesterday are expected to attend the conference.
For his part, the supervisor of the conference's organizing committee Hisham Abdel Wahab told reporters that the exhibition aimed at broadening the participation of Arab companies in the plans of rebuilding Iraq, and not to leave the arena to foreign companies alone, pointing out that European and American companies had the largest share of investment projects in Iraq.
He expressed belief that there was a fear on the side of the Arab investors to enter the Iraqi market because of the unstable security situation there.
