    Cool Or This One.

Thursday, September 07, 2006 Iraq, Iran establish free-trade zone
(MENAFN) The southern Province of Basra announced establishing a free-trade zone with neighboring Iran, signaling yet another boost in commercial ties, Azzaman reported. The provincial council in Basra has separate trade agreements with Iran. Provincial delegations travel to Iran and sign deals. They only notify the Baghdad government about their moves. Iran aims to use the zone, straddling the borders at the Shalmja border post, as a major warehouse to stockpile goods destined for Iraqi markets. Iran hopes the warehouses at the new zone, the first between the two countries, will reduce transport costs for Iraqi traders. To assist the transport of its goods, Iran is constructing a highway linking the new zone to the provincial center, the city of Basra. It's worth mentioning that trade exchange between the countries is now estimated at nearly $3 billion. Iranian exports to Iraq include food stuffs, household utensils, clothes, agricultural implements and electrical appliances, whileIraqi exports to Iran include dates and hides.

    Talking Shotgunsuzie's on a roll!

I'll have to admit she's sticking to her guns. She absolutely insists it's going to reval at .93 euro and it will be before the 17th. She must have some good contacts to stick her neck out on IIF.lol. Here's hoping to that rumor coming true.

UN Deputy Secretary-General to attend high-level weekend meeting on Iraq

8 September 2006 – Deputy United Nations Secretary-General Mark Malloch Brown will join other international officials on Sunday to discuss the International Compact with Iraq, a new partnership with the global community that was launched in July and aims to pursue political, economic and social development over the next five years in the strife-torn country.

The weekend meeting of the Preparatory Group, which will take place in the United Arab Emirates, will be held under the auspices of the Iraqi Government and the UN, which jointly co-chair the Compact, spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters today in New York.

“Its purpose will be to assess preparatory work vis-*-vis the Compact. The event will be attended by representatives of a number of countries, as well as officials from the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, Islamic Development Bank and Arab Development Fund,” he said.

Secretary-General Kofi Annan designated Mr. Malloch Brown as his focal point in New York for the Compact, and his Special Representative, Ashraf Qazi, in the same role on the ground in Iraq.

According to a joint statement issued by the UN and the Iraqi Government at the Compact’s launch on 27 July, the finalized agreement, including key priorities, benchmarks and commitments, will be presented by Baghdad by the end of the year.

Default Iraq contract adds to Fincantieri's defence business

Executives at Italian state-owned shipbuilder Fincantieri are expected to sign a contract over the next few days to build four patrol boats for the Iraqi navy. The deal, worth a little over €80m ($93.5m) to the Trieste shipbuilder, reestablishes old ties with Iraq and adds another client to the company's burgeoning defence business.
