it almost would seem to make sense that he is refrencing a R/V, and if so I would guess that Thursday they could set it in place within Iraq and present it to the world on Monday via the Compact meeting in New York and the WTO meeting on Monday in Sigapore JMO

In a little-noticed announcement in President Bush's news conference on June 14, the day he returned from Iraq, he said that he would send two personal emissaries to New York to consult with U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan on the political and economic future of Iraq. The next day, still with remarkably little public attention, Philip Zelikow, the counselor of the State Department, and Deputy Treasury Secretary Robert Kimmitt met with Annan and his deputy, Mark Malloch Brown, at the secretary general's Sutton Place residence. There was no one else present.

The two presidential envoys asked Annan to use his unique "convening powers" to help organize international meetings that would lead (by this fall, the Americans hope) to the unveiling of a new "Iraq Compact" -- an agreement between the Iraqi government and major international donors that would commit Baghdad to a series of political and economic reforms in return for substantially more international aid. (Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki called Annan the same day to make an identical request.)

    Red face

Just another thought here everyone. Sure wish OSW was here about now, here goes, and please note that I want this to reval as much as anyone:

Annan could be referring to the Iraq Compact, if you re-read the article, it is quite possible that he's saying, in essence," We have this compact formed, we're going to entice Bagdad to make certian concessions to stop violence and speed up the peace process and our group here (the Iraq Compact) is gonna offer a bunch of monetary motivators to make it happen..and for you pessimists out there, well, wait and see what happens next week after we have our meeting on Monday"

Anyway, sorry, but that's how I interpreted this..OK, you may start pummeling me now..

    Agreed,

I would have to agree, for a revalue would not be of concern to Annan as much as the compact would. Nice to know we are moving forward, but I cannot imagine this is what he was referring to, unless he has socked away a few billion for retirement. (g) It is all about patience for it will happen, but only when they are ready to announce it.

    Good luck to all, Mike
