If anyone is interested, todays press confrence with Koffi Annan was replayed on c-span 2 tonight. I decided I had way to much time on my hands (sleep is over rated) so I transcribed every part of the confrence that pertained to Iraq. So, here ya go.....
Annan: We’re going to have an Iraq compact meeting which will be attended by about 33 countries and institutions. The Iraq compact is an idea that the Iraqi government came up with and we are working with this on them to really help strengthen their economic and financial systems and also to seek international support and they will be setting benchmarks that they will out forward as what they intend to do in order not only to firm up their own economic situation but also to provide assurance and confidence to the international community that they are a serious partner on the other side and for all of us to work together. There will be a separate meeting between Iraq and its neighbors but this is a much broader meeting
Reporter: (garbled question about pledges, fundraising)
Annan: No, there will be no pledges and fund raising. I think it is the 18th of September.
Reporter 2: Secretary General I would like to ask you about a place you did not go to on your trip but a place that must have been a subject of conversation with leaders of places you did go to and that’s Iraq. The leaders of the region, what do they think the consequences have been for the region of the American invasion of Iraq and did they have a view is to whether the Americans should stay there or should leave
Annan: Honestly, most of the leaders I spoke to felt the invasion of Iraq and its aftermath has been a real disaster for them. They believe it has de-stabilized the region and they also believe… Actual there were 2 schools there. Many leaders prefer that the Americans should stay, should stay until the situation improves, and that having created the problem they cannot walk away. Then you have another school of thought particularly in Iran that believes that the presence of the US is a problem and that the US should leave. And if the US were to decide to leave they would help them. So in a way the US has found its self in the position where it cannot stay and cannot leave, and if it has to leave the timing has to be optimal and it has to be arranged in such a way that it does not cause disruption and violence in the region.
Reporter 3: Mr. Secretary General I wanted to go back to Iraq and the Iraq compact. Can tell us what concrete guidance or contributions are expected to come out of this and some nations are a little bit skeptical. They say it is a fig leaf that you all are putting down over this. And since you brought it up can I ask to expand how Iran has offered to help the Americas leave?
Annan: Let me say that on the issue… okay let me take the second one first I didn’t get into details as to how they intend to help. I mean they were quite clear that the U.S. presence was a problem and they should be withdrawn. What was your first question? Oh yeah. The compact obviously an Iraq initiative that we are supporting. The U.S. is also very actively involved. And the idea here really is to generate international support for the economic development of Iraq. I think wait till next week, the pessimist may be surprised. I don’t know what will happen. The attendance is good. No specifics we’re going to discuss it and they will put forth some Ideas.

Kurd's update . . .
We have spent a fair amount of time in the last couple days with back and forth emails from my Kurd L/Friend's family . . .
Bottom line . . . rv still @ .98 Euro, and still will be announced in a few days . . .
It's hard to press them . . . they keep saying . . . what's the hurry? . . . etc. . . . "You Americans don't need the money." . . .
My read on their messages is that *politics* [why not] are involved . . . who will get credit . . . should it be a stand alone announcement . . . or should it be bundled with several other *good-for-Iraq* messages . . .
Like . . . "and in addition . . . I / we . . . have decided that the time has arrived to 'r/v' our Dinar." . . .
If / when I learn more . . . I'll post more on this subject . . . Patience, patience, patience . . .

I was just watching CNBC and they were talking about the IMF meeting of Governors in Singapore. Masood Ahmed was talking but nothing real specific except that for 2007 they upgrade world growth by 5%...not sure what that means. He was just being interviewed briefly so he did not get into any detail just an overview of the meeting to come. Sorry...I don't have anything else to post....I just about killed myself getting to the keyboard when I saw IMF pop up on the TV...thank goodness this is going to reval soon...I get so excited when I see new info I am a danger to myself! LOL
