Yesterday, I spoke to someone in the International Department at Hibernia/Capital One in New Orleans. (I've spoken to her many times in the last year). She said that she has not heard anything concerning the r/v. She did say that if/when the dinar r/v, they will rely on their broker to set their fees and exchange rate as well as if there will be a cap on the amount one could exchange.

    U.S. denies Baghdad trench plans - Boston.com

    September 16, 2006
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The U.S. military denied reports on Saturday that Iraq plans to dig a giant ring of trenches around the city of Baghdad.

Breaking News Alerts Iraq's Interior Ministry announced earlier this week that it plans to set up 28 checkpoints that would allow controlled access to the city, while closing off other roads as part of a security crackdown.

The New York Times quoted an Interior Ministry spokesman on Saturday as saying the Iraqis would also dig a giant trench around the city of seven million people.

"We're going to build a trench around Baghdad so we can control the exits and entrances so people will be searched properly," Brigadier General Abdul Karim Khalaf told the newspaper. He said the trench would run across farmland and other open areas.

But Lieutenant Colonel Barry Johnson said the description sounded like an exaggeration of a plan that mostly would rely on existing terrain features to ensure that traffic moved through the 28 checkpoints.

"No doubt there will be some trenches involved in this, but to say there is going to be a moat around the city is a bit of a stretch," Johnson said.

"They've called it a trench around Baghdad. Really what this is, is there's a series of obstacles that the Iraqi government are planning, and we're working with them, to ensure movement through checkpoints, to keep terrorists and extremists and criminals from using those (other) routes," Johnson said.

"So it's not a trench. It will be a series using the natural terrain that already exists such as canals, and some obstacles."

Baghdad is 60 miles in circumference and surrounded mostly by farmland. But the land is already crisscrossed by irrigation canals and mostly impassible for cars driving off roads.

    Interesting,

We have many new personalities here in the last couple weeks, so of course, it takes time to know each other, and our personalities on how we interact with forum members, so lets all just keep this in mind before we post. Some do have thicker skins than others, and some have bigger egos and may come across a little more powerful than others, but all the news we hear from whoever should be freely discusses without the fear of backlash or worse, anger.

Lets just all agree to disagree respectfully as these are tense times for all of us. No matter who has what sourse they trust, and I know I trust mine for they are not selling dinar, they are involved in the oil development side of Irag, and have no reason to say anything that is not true by their trust of officials commenting on pending issues in Iraq, but keep in mind, this is also in Kurdistan, which it after all, "The Other Iraq". (g)

Simply put, can any of us really know if what we hear from our personal sources is absolute? Of course not, Iraq is a moving target as I have said over and over, and what may be true today, may not tomorrow or the day after, this is a very complex issue surrounding Iraq, and one well placed bomb can change everything in an instant. Given the realities of this, I am sure of only one thing, no one is trying to mislead anyone on forum that I can see. We are all friends here, and hopefully we can convey this to the new members to be tolerant of everyone elses opinions and news, and leave it at that.

We are all in this together, and if the ride is a little longer than hoped or expected, then why would anyone want to make it any more bumpy than it has already been? From where I sit, we are way further along than anyone expected, including myself. I went into this for the long term, as in five years or longer, but we all have to understand some just got involved, so we have a very broad base of people who are all going to have different expectations. Patience is what we all need, so enjoy the ride and don't let a few bumps deter you, hang in there, it may be that waiting longer will extend our ride and create even stronger friendships because of it.

Everyone is different, so lets not pick on the small stuff as I have seen over the last couple weeks, lets not let it get like traveling with a bunch of children on vacation, we are all adults, so keep that in mind, respect everyone for their opinions, whatever they think, and lets just all get along.
For what it is worth, my contacts have confirmed a very similar story to SGS, so I was glad to hear similar details, but it could be for other reasons as the Kurds are pushing Baghdad to the limits on revalue, so we shall see.

    Good luck to all, Mike

Default interesting part of this article

    Very interesting:

In the section on currencies, the G7 said emerging economies need to let their currencies move more freely to help reduce global economic imbalances, the Group of Seven industrial nations said on Saturday.

G7 finance ministers and central bank governors said China in particular had a responsibility to let its currency rise more quickly.

"Greater exchange rate flexibility is desirable in emerging economies with large current account surpluses, especially China, for necessary adjustments to occur," the G7 said after an afternoon of talks.

"We reaffirm that exchange rates should reflect economic fundamentals. Excess volatility and disorderly movements in exchange rates are undesirable for economic growth," the communique said.

The G7 -- the United States, Japan, Germany, Britain, France, Italy and Canada -- met ahead of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank, being held this year in Singapore.

I hope this is the right spot, haven't got used to this set up yet.

Linked to open the floodgates of investment, before all forms of investors (both local and international companies and bodies, individuals and countries) and granting privileges and economic concessions to cancel customs duties and import and export taxes, providing facilities and financial management for their investments, and other privileges affects explained, the draft law which granted investment Iraqi proposal for investors (foreign and domestic alike)

The introduction of this or that sector, assumed management of the public sector or the private sector at least for the privatization programs, for example, the service sector, which is supposed to come up like communications service in Iraq to the highest stages of privatization, by going beyond the stage of the sale of its business to the private sector, domestic or international after the near-total collapse and Tmahl public sector rehabilitation, that was a concession or lease rights to provide this service in Iraq to the three foreign companies, the Iraq according to its work into three regions, each company hired rights in the territory, including service, the company hired ether southern region, and the company Iraqna territory of the center, company and Asia flood the Northern Territory.
This vision can consider applications to the new Iraqi investment law, the service sector of water, electricity and sanitation, transport, roads and bridges, health care and other parts of the service sector, , which used to manage the Iraqi citizens by the public sector. This means lower costs for the submission of the Iraqi people through government support, to provide contrast to the citizen nominal prices is not commensurate with the prices submitted in the neighboring countries, in spite of the lack of supply compared to the need or demand for local, This means that the injury during the service sector and dreaded public sector inflation, however, it would not impose the authority of the then-ruling party or jointly with the private sector, in the best of cases, and ensure participation rates influence on the size of the public sector contribution.
Caused the failure of the public sector as well as private sector in the rehabilitation service after the near-total collapse, because of the volume of international debt and the local implications of the Iraqi economy beginning, and the deterioration of the economic situation in the country, with the devaluation of the Iraqi currency and the decline in the standard of living of the Iraqi people against the high cost of living, The preoccupation of his Bqtaha year in the provision of basic goods to the citizen, a minimum level of subsistence or survival rates exceeded citizens living below the poverty line (20%) of the population of Iraq. and the prevalence of financial and administrative corruption in all sectors of the State and joints, all these reasons caused in the quest to meet the needs of the Iraqi citizen, life Chairperson of the services through reliance on the non-governmental sector, Yet the inability of the national private sector to provide these services due to the weakness of its potential caused by the policies of the previous regime about its activities in the quest for a stop through the monopoly of productive economic activity, however, the public sector and consumer orientation, Sabri The conversion of the private sector to import consumer activity purely with restrictions idle for a large proportion of this activity. it should be oriented towards the global investment activity, The quest for the transfer of movement and activity inside Iraq, particularly in the field of service to provide the best possible service for the Iraqi people.
Thus, we can look at the future of the service sector in Iraq, and the level and volume of performance of the service sector in Iraq. through foreign investment provides the best level and volume of services, but without physical exorbitant compared to previously, It is part of the transition to a market economy, which amount to between the volume of supply and demand, which terminated or weaken the case of inflation experienced by the service sector at the current stage, While continuing to Thus level of performance service orientation, prices will services in this sector towards stability, followed by a state of relative decline in prices, and in proportion to the volume of demand for such services, and coming into the competition between the companies operating in this area to open the door offer service for all and the abolition of the limits of human investment for each company.
Despite how this major shift in the direction and format, size and cost of the basic services provided to the Iraqi people. What Sillakeh rejection and disapproval province potential for such services as happened with mobile phone companies at the beginning of its work, However, the citizen will find himself in the end, obliged to surrender to the inevitability of the historical and realistic economic situation of Iraq in the current stage and the future. Full payable citizen price for the service of electricity after entering the stage of the ongoing investment certainly will be less than the cost of wages paid to the owners of the original generators and fuel prices to operate the generators in the extended household items that do not fall within the original time of the service generators, also in the face of better service to provide any amount of energy compared to five or six amperes by generators and household eligibility, and according to income level, will be to determine the volume of spending and budget arrangement individual, the family, as well as dealing with all the other basic services, in return, provided the best level, and better performance and lower total cost

Thanks Neno, For staying on top of all this

I remember when everyone was BEGGING for any morsel of a rumor or speculation to keep them encouraged. Knowing full well that nothing was written in stone. It is fun and exciting to think of the possibilities happening so soon. We all got into this as a LONG TERM INVESTMENT, never thinking it could/would happen as fast as it has. Now that we are so close and things are lining up the natives are going wild. I enjoy the excitment of anticipation, having friends to share the disappointment with, if necessry, and the faith of our community to know that a R/V is on it's way, and we will all get there together. THIS IS ROL CLUB not IIF.....We encourage and learn together, welcome information and possibilities, an have the maturity to roll with the disappointments....KNOWING OUR DAY WILL COME. If people want to finger point, bash, blame or shoot the messenger than this is not the place for that.

I am glad that Neno is going to keep us back on track
