Iraq takes another step toward conquering debt
By David J. Lynch, USA TODAY

It won't make anyone forget the car bombs and kidnappings, but Iraq soon will take an important step toward financial stability. New government securities are scheduled to begin trading Monday for the first time in two decades.

Iraq government faces economic tests: US Treasury
    Thu Jan 19, 2006 12:16 AM ET
    By Lesley Wroughton
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Iraq's new government, facing important economic tests, should send a clear signal to donors and investors that the country is open for business, the U.S. Treasury's No. 2 official says.

In an interview with Reuters late on Wednesday, U.S. Treasury Deputy Secretary Robert Kimmitt said the new government would need to quickly ensure that its laws promote a vibrant economy, particularly when it comes to foreign investment.

"We have reached a point where it is appropriate to give the Iraqis the time they need to form the new government, and then I'm sure they'll be as interested as we and others in quickly engaging in discussions on the economic front," Kimmitt said.

    yellowman,

Bruce is pretty quick on the emails. You're safe with regards to a reval until at least monday!! As long as you can order before any sort of reval then your order would be 'honoured'. Personally I think they will wait till the government are in place and the ISX opens to foreign investors. We will then see a small reval and it will be allowed to float......but hey, what do I know? some of the experts I was reading yesterday have been 'hearing' through their bank that the rate will start off at 1 to 1. Wow, hope they're right and I'm wrong, lol.

Ok, just had a quick look regarding the 'bonds'. Have a read of this please.

    http://today.reuters.com/investing/f...T-UPDATE-1.XML

The par rate will go down as activity with the bonds increase. In other words, the closer to par they get, the better it is. At the moment they are selling at a discount to attract investors, therefore giving a higher yield, and as demand increases they will be able to be sold at closer to the par rate of 5.8%.

The fact that the % is bidding downwards is a great sign. This is the first "sign" of how the investing World will react to Iraqi type investments. Thus far they are passing with top of the class marks.

A great sign for the dinar.

Seems fair, all parties get part of the pie. Should help to 'curb' insurgencies. 2 days to appeal, which makes it Monday, also coincides with the closure of the bonds being sold on 23rd.

Hmmmm, 'interesting' as Mike would say............

Iraq vote results give Shi'ites close to majority

    http://www.wanadoo.co.uk/news/nation...icle=KAR044259

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Final results of Iraq's December 15 election gave the Shi'ite Islamist Alliance 128 seats, 10 short of a majority in the 275-seat chamber, an Electoral Commission official told a news conference on Friday.

The results, in line with expectations and earlier counts, gave the Kurdish bloc 53 seats and former prime minister Iyad Allawi's secular list 25, with two main Sunni Arab groups, the Accordance Front and the National Dialogue Front, securing 44 and 11 places respectively, Safwat Rasheed said.

Parties have two days to appeal before the results are certified as definitive.

Some Sunni Arab and secular parties have complained of vote -rigging in the poll, but international monitors brought in to address the complaints gave the election process a mostly clean bill of health in a report on Thursday, clearing the way for the results to be released.

Many Sunni leaders are already discussing places in a new coalition government.

The results were released amid tight security -- police blocked off roads between Baghdad and the restive provinces of Anbar, Salahaddin and Diyala, heartlands of Sunni Arab rebels.

    Default Iraqi Investments

    Interesting Indeed,

To tell you the truth, I am amazed, I did not think Iraq would have come this far until next year, and I looked at this as another 18 month return on investment as it was with Kuwait dinar recovery. Now we see all this has happened in record time as my first investment was only 8 months ago in Iraqi dinar. Here we are with all these issues nearly resolved which some thought would never be resloved, even a couple months ago. So much for the experts who have spouted off all over the web of Iraqi situation.
As I have always said, this is a unique situation never seen before, and it is not even close to what we saw in Kuwait, so no one, no matter how smart or informed on the middle east could have guessed this is where we would be so soon in Iraq.

The best part is this is just phase one for many of us involved with Free-Dinar, as the next phase of investment opportunites begins the moment peg is made. Imagine being able to access and invest in the Iraqi stock market as it too emerges from the ashes.

Yes, this is more exciting than the dinar potential as it will allow us all who are invested in dinar to take it to the next level, own a real piece of Iraq. Real estate and venture capital investments will also be offered, so if you thought the dinar was a good investment, wait and see what else we can invest in for the long term. Sure is exciting to think of all the possibilities as Iraq rebuilds.
    Good luck to all, Mike
