    CBI’s dollar sales down to $133m on Wednesday

    The Central Bank of Iraq’s (CBI) dollar sales dropped to $133.090 million in its daily auction on Wednesday, compared to $144.154 million during the previous session.

    “The demand hit $2.105 million in cash, covered at an exchange rate of 1,183 Iraqi dinars per dollar, and $130.985 million in foreign transfers outside the country, covered at an exchange rate of 1,173 Iraqi dinars per dollar,” according to a CBI news bulletin received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

    None of the 15 banks that participated in today’s session offered to sell dollars.

    Iraq on its way to build strong economy: Talabani

    Iraqi President Jalal Talabani said that now Iraq is working to limit terrorism and defeat all its factions and their supporters as well as cutting their funding sources.

    He also reiterated that Iraq is continuing to bring about stability and security for the Iraqis; it also goes to improve its energy sectors and natural resources to move forward in rebuilding a strong economy.

    This came in a speech addressed by President Talabani in Paris as he attended a dinner hosted by French Prime Minister Francois Fieon.

    Big Gulf firms to invest in Basra

    Major Gulf companies will soon arrive in Basra to carry out investment projects in the province, Basra’s governor said on Wednesday.

    “An agreement has recently been reached with a number of Gulf countries to invest in different sectors in Basra,” Shaltagh Abboud al-Mayyah told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

    The companies are expected to arrive early next month, the governor noted.

    Ministry of Oil: the government agreed to proceed with the licensing of oil

    265 national companies, 8 foreign firms registered in October

    The Iraqi Ministry of Trade on Thursday said that 265 national companies and eight representative offices of foreign companies were registered in October 2009.

    “Those registered included limited companies, individual project companies and private stock companies,” a ministry statement received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency quoted an informed source from the registration department as saying.

    “The department has audited the accounts of 1,157 national companies from 2004-2008, as well as the accounts of a foreign company and of 11 branches of different companies, the statement noted.
