Othman, calls for approving the budget session of Parliament before the end of the

Iraq keen to develop ties with GCC members- VP
Iraqi Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi on Monday stressed his country’s desire to boost its relations with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) members, according to a presidential statement.
“On Monday, Hashemi received the ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Iraq, Abdullah Ibrahim al-Zawi, and discussed with him bilateral relations on the one hand, and Iraq’s relations with the GCC members on the other hand,” read the statement that was received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
The envoy has highlighted his country’s keenness to overcome obstacles that prevent the development of ties between the two countries, according to the statement.

Chemical Ali’s E.xecution imminent- spokesperson
Ali Hassan al-Majeed, known as Chemical Ali, will be e.xecuted within the coming few days, an official spokesperson for the Iraqi government said on Monday.
“The sentence will be implemented in the coming few days after traditional and constitutional approvals are granted…,” Ali al-Dabbagh told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
On Jan. 17, Iraq’s Supreme Criminal Court has sentenced Majeed to death by hanging for his role in the Halabja massacre in which thousands of Kurds were killed by chemical attacks.
It was the fourth death sentence Majeed has received for crimes committed during the reign of former President Saddam Hussein.
The court also sentenced Farhan Motalk al-Juburi, the former chief of intelligence in the northern zone, to 10 years in jail. Former Minister of Defense Sultan Hashim Ahmed, and Saber Abdulaziz al-Dori, the former chief of military intelligence during the Halabja campaign, were given a 15-year sentence.
On March 16, 1988, Halabja came under brutal chemical attacks at the hands of the former Iraqi regime, leaving more than 5,000 people killed and more than 10,000 others injured, according to Kurdish estimates.

Fadila MP rules out passage of budget today
An Iraqi lawmaker from the Fadila Party has ruled out a parliamentary passage of the 2010 federal budget during today’s session, the last in the current legislative term.
“Disputes are still unresolved,” MP Kareem al-Yaqoubi told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“As we have heard, an initial agreement will be reached to set this Thursday for the passage of the budget,” he added.
