    Iraq's February oil exports at highest level since 1990

    Iraq's oil exports reached their highest level in February since Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait in 1990, oil ministry spokesman Assem Jihad told AFP on Tuesday.

    CBI sells $95m on Tuesday

    The Central Bank of Iraq’s (CBI) dollar sales rose to $95.437 million in its daily auction on Tuesday, compared to $93.665 million in the previous session.

    “The demand hit $7.240 million in cash, covered at an exchange rate of 1,183 Iraqi dinars per dollar, and $88.197 million in foreign transfers outside the country, covered at an exchange rate of 1,173 Iraqi dinars per dollar,” according to a CBI news bulletin received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

    None of the 10 banks that participated in today’s session offered to sell dollars.

    Maliki office denies orders to arrest Sadr

    Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki’s office denied reports about orders to arrest Sayyed Moqtada Al Sadr once he returns to Iraq.

    Al Maliki’s office denied firmly the news which it considered was driven by electoral motives, the office told Alsumaria.

    Sayyed Moqtada Al Sadr is a patriotic man, he is welcome in his country and is regarded as part of the political process in Iraq, Cabinet spokesman Ali Al Dabbagh told Alsumaria News.

    Al Sadr’s return is a national necessity aimed to lead Al Sadr Front which is viewed as a national and influential party in the country, Al Dabbagh said.

    UN envoy to Iraq stresses importance of vote

    Ad Melkert, the United Nations Special Representative in Iraq, stressed that Iraq polls “must really be the elections for the future of Iraq by the Iraqi people”.

    Melkert expressed however concern about attacks in the run-up to election day stressing yet that he did not notice any sectarian clashes.

    Iraq sets security measures for elections

    The deadline set by Independent High Electoral Commission for political entities to substitute their banned candidates ended on Monday.

    IHEC assistant manager in Karkh office Hazem Al Rudaini announced that the Commission set one count center in each province in exception for two in Baghdad.

    These centers are charged of counting votes of special ballot and of immigrants not listed in IHEC registers, Al Rudaini said.

    The centers are open for observers, political entities agents and media, he added.

    Elections high security committee meanwhile sent a prompt memorandum for all military and security forces announcing a state of utmost vigilance and banning recruits from taking days off starting Tuesday March 2 at 6 am till next Tuesday, March 9.

    Security measures include as well night curfew from 10 pm till 5 am on March 6, 7 and 8. Civilians licensed to hold arms will be prevented on March 6, 7 and 8 to carry any weapons. International land and maritime passages in addition to airports will be closed off as well from 12 am on March 7 till 5 am on March 8.

    The Arab League on the other hand affirmed that members of its commission in Baghdad are monitoring electoral campaigns as well as IHEC measures and preparations.

    Iraq Ministry of Oil organized a seminar in which it tackled the economic and political dimensions of the first and the second oil bids rounds. The ministry stressed that the same will contribute in boosting Iraq economic and oil situation in the country.

    TPIC Turkish Company wins contract to drill 45 wells in Rumaila

    Dhiya Jaafar, head of the South Oil Company, TPIC, the foreign exploration unit of state-run Turkish Petroleum, has won a $318 million contract to drill 45 wells in Iraq's super-giant Rumaila oilfield.

    Iraq no longer poses a threat to its neighbors and seeks to perpetuate the relationship with Kuwait

    Invited member of the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee, Tania Talat Security Council to cancel all the decisions taken against Iraq so long sought to establish good relations with the sisterly Kuwait, no longer represents a threat to its neighbors.

    The Talat during a press statement made by, Tuesday, to the consultations held between the Kuwaiti and Iraqi sides under the auspices of the United Nations during the past months.

    Talat added that Iraq has returned some 300 missing Kuwaitis to their country, and the relations are moving in the right way, saying that Baghdad is the sustainability of good relations with Kuwait.

    Basra governor discusses investment with Sweden, Norway

    The governor of Basra has met with a delegation from the embassies of Sweden and Norway in Iraq to discuss investment opportunities in the province, a media source said on Wednesday.

    “On Wednesday, Basra Governor Shaltagh Abboud al-Mayyah received in his office a joint delegation from the Swedish and Norwegian embassies to discuss economic and investment cooperation in Basra City,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

    The delegation, led by the Swedish ambassador in Iraq, has expressed the readiness of companies from both countries to contribute to large projects in the province, the source added.

    No plans to make ID1000 = $1 – CBI

    There are no plans to make the exchange rate of ID1,000 equal to $1, Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) said on Wednesday.

    “Iraq’s currency policies are far from such decisions,” the CBI said in a release received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

    The CBI said that the current exchange rate, ID1,170 = $1, is balanced, stable, and can be preserved through Iraq’s foreign currency reservoir of $43 billion.
