Iraq closes Iran borders for polls security
Iraq closed off its borders with Iran as part of tight security measures to secure elections day. Iraqi soldiers from Border Guards Forces were deployed on the borders with Basra while entrance was closed off as well.
Border forces command closed all border passages between Iraq and Syria until further notice. Thousands of troops were put on alert at borders to prevent gunmen infiltration.

Iraq Parliament elections end successfully
Independent High Electoral Commission announced that polling centers have closed in all provinces of Iraq at 5 pm.
Voters who were in queues in front of polling centers at 5 pm, are still allowed to vote, IHEC clarified.
At the end of this long election day, Iraqi officials, security forces and citizens have succeeded in marking another day of democracy in the country.
Elections security committee had announced earlier that curfew has been lifted off from all Iraqi provinces in exception for Nineveh.
Shams election monitoring organization reported on the other hand that turnout of voters was estimated between 35% and 40% since early morning till noon i.e. before the end of elections.

Direct transfer of ballot boxes to stores Kut amid tight security
A source in the Office of the elections and Wasit, Sunday, said the office began the transfer of ballot boxes to a warehouse complex Kut amid tight security.
The source told (Voices of Iraq) that "employees of the Commission proceeded in the late night (Sunday) the transfer of the ballot box in a public vote to the complex storage central Kut."
He added that "the transfer of funds took place during the curfew, amid tight security represented by the conduct of joint forces of army and police since the inception of the centers down to the warehouse complex that has been secured," he wrote. He pointed out that "the transfer of funds will continue until tomorrow (Monday) due to the delay of some centers in the process of counting and sorting."
Seen across the districts and the areas of Wasit province attended the roaming of vehicles and people since ten o'clock at night and continues until the sixth morning tomorrow (Monday).

Iraq extends memorandum of understanding with Royal Dutch Shell
Iraq has extended a memorandum of understanding with Royal Dutch Shell on a natural gas venture in Basra for six months from March 2010, Iraq's oil minister Hussein Al Shahristani told Reuters on Sunday.
"We will resume talks with Shell after the election," Al Shahristani said after he cast his vote in the country's second full parliamentary election.

Allawi protests IHEC election performance
Upon the end of Parliamentary elections, Iraqi Former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi called on the next Parliament to carry out a full investigation concerning elections and the roles of some officials thereto.
Allawi asked to put the IHEC under investigation after he protested its performance on account of major confusions in polling centers, he argued.
Iraqi Former Prime Minister warned the IHEC against inaccuracies or non-objectivity in counting votes.

IHEC : Polls official results might take time
Independent High Electoral Commission overlooked all unofficial results that some candidates are announcing.
In a press conference on Sunday night, IHEC declared that the final announcement of Parliamentary election results will take time till the end of the week probably.
Turnout was strong, yet, there are no accurate estimates on the percentage of participation, IHEC added.
IHEC chairman Faraj Al Haidari called on all political entities to respect the process of results and abstain from announcing inaccurate figures.

Iraq election special security plan succeeds
Iraq’s Elections High security committee announced that elections special security plan succeeded.
In a joint press conference with Baghdad Operations Command spokesman Brigadier Qassem Ata, head of the committee Major Aydan Khaled affirmed the success of the security plan while applauding security forces whom he regarded as heroes.
Security forces’ mission is not done yet as they will ensure the transfer of ballot boxes when counting votes is completed, Khaled added.
Brigadier Qassem Ata confirmed in his turn that terrorists’ attempts were doomed to failure as voters poured in to electoral centers manifesting a strong will.

Al Maliki: Iraq elections a national epic
Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki described elections day as a national epic.
In an address to the Iraqi people at the end of Iraq Parliamentary elections, Al Maliki stressed that elections day was a strike to terrorism and to those who are against Iraqis’ will, democracy and freedom.
Terrorist plots have failed, Al Maliki said.
Iraqi Prime Minister thanked army soldiers, security forces and police for successfully ensuring the political process.

Estimates: Maliki front-runner in 9 provinces
Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki is the front-runner in Iraq's nine southern provinces, AFP quoted local official as saying.
Al Iraqiya List led by Iyad Allawi came first in Anbar, Salahuddin, Diyala and Nineveh, estimates reported.
In Kirkuk, Kurdistan Alliance topped the chart followed by Al Iraqiya then the State of Law Coalition, estimates added.
