Iranian Bank opens branch in Basra

An Iranian bank has opened a branch in the southern province of Basra to facilitate money transfer between the two countries, the Iranian consul in the city said on Wednesday.

"The step aims to boost financial cooperation between Iran and Basra City...," Mohammed Reda Baghban told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

It will also activate Iranian investment projects in the city, the consul indicated.

The bank will be run under the supervision of Iraqi state-run banking institutions.

CBI’s dollars sales drop further on Thursday

The Central Bank of Iraq’s (CBI) dollar sales fell to $165 million in its daily auction on Thursday, compared to $186.415 million in the previous session.

“The demand hit $7.920 million in cash, covered at an exchange rate of 1,183 Iraqi dinars per dollar, and $157.920 million in foreign transfers outside the country, covered at an exchange rate of 1,173 Iraqi dinars per dollar,” according to a CBI news bulletin received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

None of the 14 banks that participated in today’s session offered to sell dollars.
