Default If, if, and just if!

IF you see a red-white-blue HUMMER pass you like it is heading somewhat in the same direction yet appear to be moving towards the California side of the West-Coast in a more then faster pace then most Subaru's, then the RV hit and I will be shipping the beast to Hawaii. the Hawaiian Flag will be in tatters due to the speed of the "beast" as the price of gas nor the yellow coupons given by the troopers would not trouble any of the hired drivers I have with their fake drivers licenses (immigrants to be returned to California)!

Yaahoooooo, we are on Vacation and soon!
Move over when you hear us a "humming!"

We will be cheering you on as you share! Buckle up,
keep it under eighty and remember to look out for the RWB hummer!

YES!! we are on a three week road trip across this great land of ours, driving through all the "fly over" states on our way to Washington state to find our future home. I'm keeping a journal and I'd thought I'd post some snippets--in case anyone glued to the computer wants to live vicariously through us!!

DAY 1, 21 OCT, starting odometer mileage on the Subaru: 13410

Traveling thru Virginia to the soundtrack as laid down by Jim Bailey. Niether the Revolution, nor this road trip will be televised. Hills and nostalgia rise as we travel west and leave Virginia Beach and all that Haze grey behind.

We passed ancient looking log cabins, empty hollows, trailer parks and too many vine covered old stores and gas stations to count. This is our country, flags, shopping malls, cross road towns and all...and we are seeing it from the slow lane of a secondary road. Our first stop will be the Meadows of Dan where Hwy 58 crosses the Blue Ridge Parkway to drop in on their Indian Summer Fair.

Oh the Meadows of Dan...so much further down the road than we thought...I'm thinking that it is a good thing we brought both the Atlas AND the computer (not just to check the DINAR!!) with streets and trips...

We head west, blinded by the setting sun. We head west to a different shore, a different ocean, west ot our future, and for a moment we are blinded....

Lover's Leap, and we hop out of the car to take a cold picture--foliage, pasture and cold!! Feeny, Country Girl and Pimpdaddy August 18, 2006 wuz here.

Day 2 13686 on the odometer of our sweet Subaru...

There were lots of "this is our first night" moments in the Meadows of Dan. After several attempts and a "you just set up the chairs" we achieved a roaring fire. The tent went up with no problems and after a couple of chili verde quesadillas all was well. I don't think either of us were truly prepared for how cold it was (somewhere in the 30's) and while a mesh roof might be good for star gazing it does nothing to keep the heat in the tent! We both went to sleep fully dressed peeling off layers as we warmed up in the old fart sack as my sweet husband affectionately likes to call our zip together sleeping bags. Once the neighbors ran out of beer and settled in for the night, the sounds of wind in the trees and some cows lowing in the fields lulled us to sleep. It wasn't a deep sleep but we did manage a couple of dreams between us--I dreamt I found a 50 dollar bill tucked into my wallet--a reval premonition perhaps? Coyotes howled and when morning came it was cloudy and damp.

"you never had fried pies before??" our waiter at Becky's Fried Pies asks. Nope, but that was all fixin to change. Rasberry for me and egg, sausage and cheese for Mike--halfway through we switched, of course...I have to say that fried pies do not suck, although I have a feeling that those two little pockets of oil saturated goodness may have taken 2 or 3 months off our lives!!

Some hand crafts, some chit chat and we're headed west on Hwy 58. Soon we'll be trading the intimacy of the secondary roads for the boredom of the interstate. Gotta make some time today...I'm learning something my husband, a veteran motorcycle tripster knows already....it's on the secondary roads that you'll find the soul of this land...the profane, the profound and the just plain silly await in the little towns untouched by the snaking asphalt that permits speedy travel. But such intimacy is requires time--a precious commodity right now, so it'ssomething that's gotta be done...

That catches y'all up...we're in eastern Tennessee, on I-40 headed west towards our next camp spot...I'll be checking in tomorrow to see if we can turn this three week vacation into something more permenent...and if it's okay with everyone, I'll post more of our adventures in our faithful Subaru!

    Cheers!

Hey Y'all from day three on the road....Day 3 starting mileage: 14020, tempers lost: 0 Hours lost to being lost: 1

After I signed off last night we continued to hop on and off the interstate...I've crossed country several times by myself, the last time--sea to shining sea in 3 and a half days...I'm not used to moving so slow, so while I do love the slow pace and character of the secondary roads there is always that push "to make time"...as if anyone could "make time"...a quick stop at the grocery store for some essentials and 2 campgrounds later we arrived at our home for the night--space #109 at the Cumberland Mountain State Park in Crossville, TN. Night #2 started a little better than the previous--setting up the camp in daylight didn't suck AND the previous tennents were kind enough to leave us a firepit full of hot burnin coals--SCORE!! After some discussion on where to put the tent, Mike decided ( more on that later!) where to put the tent and as I set about putting together the tent etc, Mike started dinner. Our main course was still frozen (some buffalo burg) so plan B--A bottle of Chianti, some chili, squash and bread with the best butter I've ever tasted--"country butter" we picked up in the Meadows of Dan...It's the little things...

Good dinner, a roaring fire (thanks to Mike--BTW, I'm sorry for melting the rubber guard on the hatchet whilst playing with the fire... ) some s'mores and it's time to put day 2 to bed. some quotable lines: Mike: Hmmm...looks like we put the tent on a slope...look at it--you can see it slanting.... and Mike: Hon are you cold? Me: Fack yeah, I'm cold!!

Day 3 started out with KICKIN egg sandwiches (Mike is SUCH a good cook! ) and another clean hot shower!! (YES!!) As we left the campground I heard what sounded like sand hitting the windshield...a strange sound...it wasn't sand...it was SNOW! just a little bit, and not enough to stick, but SNOW none the less!! According to the 'Ru it was 37 degrees at 9am...Fack yeah I was cold!!

Put some gas in and we were off...in search of the Interstate....which according to the GPS (we'll call her Jill) was just up ahead....the big 6 lane road turned to 4 lanes, turned to 2 lanes...you know you're out in the boonies when the gps doesn't even show you're on a road...soon we were on a one lane road winding through the prettiest country...fall colors, paint horses and cattle grazin...little stone houses (the brick of virginia gave way to stone as the preferred material to keep out the big bad wolf)...This is the land of Mike's ancestors, the Cherokee and by the looks of the land it was quite a paradise for them....thick brush, tall trees, rain ponds and judging by the roadkill, teaming with wildlife....surely enough to sustain a person over the 4 seasons....We also pass a little roadside cemetary...were they looking for I-40 too? The one lane road winds through houses and farms that look more and more tired, more and more...sad, and we decide to cede defeat. Jill led us astray, and it's time to retrace our bread crumbs and look for the interstate elsewhere.

Retracing our steps, we find I-40 right where we left it. I-40, four lanes of bliss at 70mph...everyone's in a hurry--I can't help but feel like we're all goin nowhere fast. 2:53pm CST--we crossed the Mississipi River--not quite so mighty here at the TN/AR border...but just like that we're in the midwest...

We fly fast, but not too fast--Mike keeps it right around the speed limits--we'll find other ways to break the law... So far we haven't seen any red white and blue Hummers...but we are keeping our eyes peeled and this trip hasn't included a strip joint, but we have seen a couple signs for the odd adult bookstore--the last one at exit 58 in Arkansas, just off the highway--conveniently sharing a parking lot with a Super 8, KFC, Wafflehouse, and McDonalds...talk about a one stop shop!! We passed through the towns of Bucksnort, TN, and Toad Suck, AR We'll push on to Oklahoma tonight and stay in a motel...Dinner at a restaurant AND a level bed--OH YEAH, WE'LL BE LIVIN LARGE TONIGHT!!!

We're on vacation until the 13th of November, by the way, so a reval anytime before then is okay with us!!!

    Cheers, OSWoman

Has anyone seen the rumor on AD that Bush is going to, or is in Iraq now? Part of the Oct. Surprise? I ask because I question the source.

Look for the signs for 'gentleman's clubs' and the buildings look like big sheds, usually near a county line that divides a 'wet' and 'dry' county. They do NOT look like anything you'd see in Vegas. Um, I heard. Don't ask me how I know.

Well, my husband was making fun of me and my 'monopoly money' and in the course of the conversation came up with 'Muhammedopoly'.

The pieces: decapitated head, starving dog, camel, IED, car bomb, miscellaneous blown-off body part, AK-47

    The money: dinar, of course

Sample cards from The Ration Card Chest or Chance:
"Burka tax: you must pay 100,000 dinars for each wife"
"Mahdi Insurance Agency calls, pay 500,000 dinar for 'protection'"
    "Payday! Collect 25,000 dinar"
"(Pick one of the daily calls to prayer) time, lose a turn"
    "Happy Ramadan, collect 10,000 dinar"

    Places:
    Go = الذهاب
    Jail = Abu Ghraib
    Free Parking = Free Squatting
Go to Jail = Go to Abu Ghraib

    Railroads:
    BIAP
    Tigris
    Camel Express
    Euphrates

    Sample properties:
Park Place & Broadway: Green Zone & Al Mansour
Mediterranean & Baltic: Najaf & Sadr City

    Anyone want to play?

    Default Just punishment

For all the atrocities Saddam committed against the innocent people of Iraq, and for all the horrible suffering he caused, I think he should received a public hanging in the center of Bagdad. I heard it said that Saddam requested that if he receives the death penalty that he wishes to be shot like an honorable soldier. Big joke!! There is nothing "honorable" about the man and he deserves to die a death of humilitation and in shame.
