This is a very interesting question. I would think that before the CBI could reduce the quanity of the money supply to this level market forces would come to play and make the currency too expensive. There continues to be a disageement on how much money was printed and how much is in circulation. I remember a report I think was from Chalibi that said 9 trillion was printed. How much is in circulation has been reported around 4.5 trillion. I have also read some extremely larger numbers. In any case, the position that we are watching a very aggressive effort to remove dinar from the economy is still a valid position. Regardless of how much is truly in circulation is not an issue we can control. We can continue to observe the trend and should feel good that the CBI is acting in a responsible way concerning monetary policy. Although I still feel the interventions over the last few auctions have been very dramatic if not a "panic" action. If removal of the dinar was to be monetary policy of the CBI, once they exceded the suggested currency reserves in the original SBA with the IMF they could then have begin removing excess dinar from the economy. As I have said before, I don't think they are stupid, but I do think they are inexperienced. And as I always say, the next couple of days this week are going to continue to be very interesting.

You are right on the money here. The trend is more important than the amount in circluation. The economy will dictate when the CBI must stop removing currency from circluation as the rate will go up.

With regard to the amount in circluation I have heard the 4.5 trillion in circulation/9 trillion printed all the way up to 20 trillion printed, but it is interesting to note that if the number were 9 trillion printed, then the CBI has removed nearly 10% of the cash that is printed, and almost 20% of the cash in circulation. Even at 20 trillion printed its nearly 5%, which is a substantial amount. Especially in one weeks time. I thought maybe they were trying to finish up the removal as subtly as possible by last weeks rush (panic as you put it), so as not to give speculators time to react, but this weeks article has me scratching my head.

Someone else I believe it was H20 asked, "haven't they been buying dinar for the last 3 years?". The answer is yes, but it was at a much lower rate than last week. If I recall correctly they have sold almost as much dinar or around half as much as they bought at the auctions. Thus, some came in and some went out. But I am pretty sure that they were always bringing in more dinar than they were sending out. That is why the first auction last week were they bought nearly 105 million dinar and sold virtually none caught my eye. Could be wrong as my memory ain't what it used to be, but I like what is happening. Nothing to be sad about.

It is not in keeping with the spirit of Rolclub to ask anyone for private information publicly no mater how smart or capable you perceive them to be ... it would be unfortunate if the poster (wm knowles) did not feel that he or she could participate freely without trading in his/her privacy.

A private message would allow you to respectfully ask your questions and the other person can then choose to answer privately or publicly..or they can refuse to answer.

If this makes sense to you, I hope you will edit your post so that wm knowles feels entirely free to continue to so generiously share his/her expertise.
