SI MAY BE OFF LINE FOR A REASON
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SI may be off line for a reason.
HACKING
Solid Investment, hereafter known as SI, has been the victim of hackers. Hackers somehow found user names and passwords on SI's servers and began stealing money from E-Bullion accounts. E-Bullion locked SI out of it operations. It was only after much due diligence from SI that E-Bullion allowed it back in. Lately, the same thing has been happening at E-Gold and SI has lost money as a result.
DDoS
SI has had it share of DDoS attacks. On the July 3 payout day, SI had a friendly DDoS attack from its own subscribers, i.e. too many computers trying to access the SI web site from the outside.
GOING PRIVATE
At 100,000 subscribers, SI made the decision to "go private" and not accept any other new subscribers. As a result of this decision to go private, and the other mentioned problems, SI apparently made the decision to upgrade their computer system. So, to correct all of these items at one time, early on the morning of Saturday, July 8, SI took its servers off line.
BUILDING NEW COMPUTER SYSTEM
As John, at www.Future4Me.com, has previously mentioned from his research, SI has moved their server operations to new vendors, which includes improved DDoS and security protections. This may include a new, wideband satellite data pipe between Belize and Texas. But, that is only part of the story. SI may be completely rebuilding their own servers in Belize. If this is the case, they may be constructing a completely new system from the ground up, a costly and time consuming process. I am not aware of how they were connecting to their satellite data channel. They may have their own uplinking facilities on site or they may have to export to a nearby satellite uplinking station. If they export, it may be necessary for them to install new fiber optic cables to their facilities. If they do it themselves, they may be building new uplinking facilities.
If they completely rebuild their on site system, they must first gather the hardware together and install it. Then, they must load the application software and subscriber database, which is going to be very large, 100,000 subscribers. Next, it is necessary to test and manipulate the software to work out any bugs. If any hardware or software is missing, they may be waiting for it. They may also have to bring in IT specialists to aid them. They may be waiting for these folks too.
Finally, knowing SI as I do, they would want to completely beta test the system. They simply are not going to throw something together and carelessly put it on line. There is too much money at stake. This may include feeding the system through a temporary IP address at the proxy server. Beta testing may include hiring a company to thoroughly test the system from the outside and maybe hiring a company that specializes in hacking new systems to uncover its vulnerabilities.
If all of this is happening, it may be a bit premature to believe that they have shut their servers off permanently. Not counting today (Friday, July 14), it has only been four working days. Really not enough time to accomplish some, or all, of the above.
I agree with John. If SI was going to disappear with as much money as it could, it had plenty of time prior to July 9. SI's past reputation and DD, and its responsibilities to large institutional investors and borrowers, leaves me to believe that it may come back. SI is not a small, thieving Internet surfing company where one or two individuals can just grab the money and run. A Microsoft engineer reported that Sam Colins and Rafael Sosa were in Plano, Texas on July 10 working on the server changeover. If this is true, it looks like they may be serious about coming back on line. As John said, if they were going to disappear, SI would not have changed server routes and it would have left its old servers on line to avoid suspicion. Disappearing just doesn't make sense to me.
Let's give them more time, say until Monday, July 24. They seem to have much to accomplish.

This is, indeed, cheery news but I find it too pregnant with conjecture for my liking.
Cheery for hurting folk, nevertheless.

We can dream?
Well I for one like the "hope" this post gives we small time investors.
I can only hope that they come back online but given other posts I can't hold my breath. If there accounts are frozen we are out of luck. Should I log into my e-gold account and find that I indeed got paid it would thrill me to no end. I will admit that I would only consider investing with them private or not with money from profits and not new money. I might give them a second chance but the communication needs to be fixed. But still I will not hold my breath, But it is a nice dream ain't it?
I recon only time will tell.
