INTERVIEW WITH IT ENGINEER ABOUT SI, THIRD POST
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For some reason, this post has been deleted two times before. Here it is again.
I know someone who is a Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP). Anyone who knows what this means immediately understands that this person is an expert on Internet and Intranet network operations. Under his certification, he is required to return to Cisco for additional training every two years. The following is information I received from him.
Consequently, since what I am reporting here is hearsay and since it is coming from someone who uses an anonymous handle, I urge everyone, who is reading this, to check everything here for themselves before making up their own minds. In my opinion, this should be standard operating procedure for everyone on this forum. It is for me.
When asked what might be the timeline for a company to (1) change to a larger server, (2) re-route their data pipeline, and (3) completely rebuild their hardware and software, including their database, he gave me a scenario. Since none of the specifics are known, this outline is based on generalities based on the past experiences of other companies going through similar circumstances. This is one, but not the only, way to accomplish Internet site recovery.
Solid Investment servers go off line on Saturday, July 8, 2006.
Solid Investment contacts SoftLayer to arrange to switch their server bit stream through proxy servers offering DDoS protection. This may have happened on Monday, July 10.
SoftLayer may have asked SI when it needed the service. SI, knowing it had a lot of work to do on its server system before it would be ready to go on line again, may have replied that it needed it in about two weeks.
The IT engineer estimated it might take seven to fourteen days to set up the service. Why so long, I asked him? He replied that it takes time to get the funds to Softlayer for the service, to get SI into its management and technical databases, to generate a work order for the service, and to initialize SoftLayer's routing switcher to accept SI. SoftLayer's IT technicians probably operate with work orders stating when the client needs the service. Some need it in a hurry and some need it at a later time. Therefore, the IT department might have to make a determination as to who goes first. SI may have been somewhere in the middle.
It looked like Port 80 opened up about Tuesday, July 18, indicating that SoftLayer had completed is primary setup process for SI. SoftLayer's IT technicians may or may not work weekends. Assuming that they do, not counting the day SI's servers went off line (July 8), Port 80 opened about ten days after SI's server shutdown. So, this time frame falls within the seven to fourteen day estimate.
I asked the IT engineer what SI had to go through to set up their system. He said that there are a number of things they will have to do.
If they operate their own servers (and it must be assumed that they do, since they are dealing with millions of dollars and wouldn't trust anyone else with this responsibility), they first have to tear down the old system to use parts of it for the new one (monitors, keyboards, printers, etc.)
After the new system hardware is assembled and functioning, application and database software must be loaded and adjusted until it is functioning as perfectly as possible.
After this, the functioning server is fed through to the other servers in the network system in an effort to try to get them to communicate with each other and their software, including the DDoS software at SoftLayer. This includes checking to see if their data pipeline (satellite or fiber optic cable) operates normally. A one hop, narrow band satellite data feed usually costs about $2,000 per day. Wide band channels cost considerably more.
Once it is determined that everything is communicating normally, the system is placed in a beta testing mode. This is usually accomplished through an anonymous IP address that was specifically set up for this purpose. During this process, the system is put through a vigorous and exacting series of tests to determine if there any deficiencies, flaws, or failures in the system.
After it is concluded that the system is complete and operating at maximum efficiency, then, and then only, will it be put on line for usage.
He said that he has worked with many financial institutions, including banks. They NEVER, NEVER put anything on line until they are completely satisfied that the system will not fail them.
Therefore, he felt that SI was not about to scramble to put something together, in a haphazard fashion, and then carelessly put their Internet site on line just to satisfy people who were yelling for its return.
I asked him if he was going to run away with funds under these circumstances, what would he do. He laughed and said that the first thing he would do is to not take the servers off line. Taking the servers down would immediately alert everyone that there was a problem. Instead, he would hire some lesser persons, pay them a salary for a month or two, and tell them to answer telephones, emails, and faxes, and to make sure that the servers stayed on line. Then, he would tell them that he was going on a trip and to watch the store, all-the-while planning to head to remote parts of the world to live a life of anonymity, riches and ease.
I asked him if setting up systems at SoftLayer might be a way of trying to convice investors that SI had plans to come back when it did not. He said that this is rather unlikely, since they selected one of the best DDoS protection providers in the country and since it appears that it has paid for the service. Why would anyone go to the labor, and expense, of covering their tracks this way, when they could have left their severs on line and avoided all of it, thereby giving them more time to escape?
Under normal circumstances, he felt that SI should have its servers back on line somewhere between the 30th and 40th day after the outage (August 8 to 18). If they run into trouble of some kind, they may run beyond this. He said that if SI is not back by September 1, then they are probably gone.
He did say that it is not wise to contact Internet Service Providers and inquire about their clients, because only a very limited amount of information can be given and because it becomes a problem to have people contacting them all the time. He said this has happened to him and he didn't like it. He has seen ISP's drop clients because they became too troublesome. Let's hope this does not happen to Solid Investment. We all want it to come back.
Note: Please do not make this a Sticky Topic.

In your post you mentioned that we will be paid within a week....i would be grateful if you could answer the following questions asap.
1. - Can you tell me if this payment is for the full amount of our maturing SP's or only a percentage of what is due?
2. - The date when payments will begin. Will payments be made via egold or ebullion or both
3. - Thirdly, can you explian to me or post the reason why the Site and the forum was taken offline
4 - What about people Sp plans which did not mature in July, will there accounts still continue to receive interest? If so at what percentage rates
5 - When will the SI site be up...wil there be a new url...if so can you disclose now.
thankyou
