This is my Short Billed Sulphur Crested Cockatoo. She is around 40 years old, and I suspect that she will be outliving me. The last one our family had blonged to my grandmother and lived for 108 years.
She is my baby......and loves to go for walks with me around the neighbourhood, perched on my shoulder. She also loves to tease the dogs and round up my kids in the backyard.

Thats a Super douper Cocky for all the love & money one can have.... Yes, I know and being myself in tune with Pets too.... they earn 2nd place next to Man as an honorable position.... given the likes of humanoids we have around us, Nature's pets are innocent and always gratifying when we show it ourselves genuinely....well, you would know how that is managed, nothing like "exchanging" tunes with one's birdie...LoL.
I'm training mine to fine tune his whistling with Lennon & McCartney's: All you need is Love.....
He's touching 7 years now and what a bird... he now has to stay indoors...resulting from the Bird Flu virus being a threat here and local laws require it for the moment until it gets lifted!
Would sure like to have a chat , my wife is now crazy in love with this species, would be great to pop over when we fly down-Under and meet...
Cheers 2 U....and many more years of happy company with yr Cocky... and ours is called Tuki the tiny Tarzan.

Yogibrood, it must be wonderful to have such a companion in the kitchen when you bake bread, singing for you. I have been in Tampa, Florida, and I saw only old people. I did not know they also have fantastic parrots there!
GHAdmin, Great to see the pictures. I believe parrots can be quite intelligent. I once saw a wonderful film about a parrot(Polly?) and a little girl also with my favorite Geena Rowland. Same story as Lassie. Made me realize parrots hidden potential, even if it was a fairytale.
Good luck with your parrots.

Tuki stayed with us since the 09/11drama for it became unbearable to have him quarantined for several months in the USA while their new mansion in suburban NY needs to be built.... completely unthinkable for the owners, so it was left to our care instead and no regret since....he's a cool whistler...and yesterday afternoon...we had our exchange in whistling some of Rachmaninoff's interpretation of Pagannini's *Somewhere In Time*.... spanning almost 2 hours.... together in the kitchen...yes, your guess was Spot ON!!!
It is also interesting to have Ritz share his "Cocky" with us here on the forum... I hope more bird owners come out and share their birdies.... no, noooo, NOT those ...hahaaaa!

Cockatoos are, in my opinion, one of the most intelligent of our feathered friends, Percy (above), is a fine example of the bonding between man and bird. SHe is most definitely in love with me, as she is detirmined to make sure my wife is nowhere to be seen when I have her loose in the backyard! She also makes a very distinct "clicking" noise with her beak whenever she is in my company, which is one of the ways that lifelong cockatoo "mates" display thier "marriage". Cockatoos stay with thier partners for life.....which can mean a relationship that spans over 100 years.
