I came and shared what info I had and asked for input but instead I found sour attitudes. I haven't posted again because I was waiting to here back from the person that originally told me of the impending currency replacement. I asked him about the arguments that arose after my previous post, hoping your explanations were what he actually meant to say. After a lengthy discussion today he assured me that the dinar will be replaced soon. The new dinar will be lower denominations that will be exchanged for the current notes, but not in the way I had expected. they will exchange the 25,000 notes for new 25 dinar notes, 10,000 dinar notes for new 10 dinar notes, and so forth. He says that he was in on the planning of the dinar prior to the war and that the new dinar was printed at the same time as the current dinar. That is all I have to share and seeing how I was treated I doubt I should have shared that. I hope everyone can be a little more kind, I was only looking for some hope and feel like I have been outright attacked.
Ok. So your saying 25K Dinar will be replaced for new 25 Dinar. And at .78 cents. Now, are we going to able to trade our 25Kdinar(25000 x .78) for $19,500 and 25dinar for $19.50? If it is i'll gladly take .78 RV. Otherwise I'am going to say No Lop No Reprint. We just need lower denm. and gradually take back larger denm as they come-in. JMHO

One major reason there will NOT be any lop [can't believe I took this hook again] is the CBI has more than enough cash reserves to buy up every last dinar in existence and like Knowles has said many times there are few countries on earth with this ability. Lops are for countries who can't afford to do this.
This is even more true now than when I wrote this several months ago. With 21 billion in reserves, my humble arithmetic suggests that they could buy around 26 trillion in dinar at the current rates. Even if you should believe that the GOI has been "putting it back in" as fast as the CBI has been taking it out, this number still far exceeds the largest estimates of currency in print and circulation that we have had. This continues to be a remarkable fundamental and most small countries in the world can't do this. And if you look at exchange rates for some of these countries, you'll see that their exchange rates are more favorable than iraqs when compared to the USD. thank You.

Hey, loan, here's a problem: the original printing of 14 denominations required something like 26 747's to fly it into Iraq. Now if your friend is correct, is he saying the replacements were flown in on the same shipment? If not, don't you think we would have heard about a flight of several 747's flying into Iraq a 2nd time? Doesn't seem likely, sorry.

What about the Iraqis. They have been keeping their dinars not dollars. If the GoI suddenly changes the currency, don't you think the people of Iraq will be pissed off? I would be. I guess anything is possible, but this scenario doesn't seem probable. Like any other rumor we should put this on the "wait and see" pile.

Sorry Neno - this link is taken from the other place - but I thought it was important enough to post.

This is a link that clearly states that 14 denominations in notes and coins were originally printed.

I think this is important because it is often mentioned but no one has ever been able to provide a link as evidence.

If people question this in future they can be directed to this thread and the link below.

No new printing - just not released yet. They knew they would RV and phase out the larger notes. JMHO
    Interesting,

The 14 denominations has been well documented with several links from banks in Iraq, and this is just one more to add to the list. What I would have liked to see is what the denoms are, this would add to the validation, yet I have yet to uncover a link with this information. It is nice to know there is no question that the 14 denominations exist, now all we need to hear is they are being introduced, and who cares if they phase out the higher notes, they will exchange them for lower denoms, so no issue of loss exists, simply an exchange which would make sense for most in Iraq just as it did when U.S. large notes were phased out of circulation.

Good luck and health to all, Mike

I read in the news thread that those reserves are nearing 25 billion in cash [on par with the Saudis] and that further strengthens the case.
It seems that the state insists, or preserve the value of the Iraqi dinar 148 against the dollar ...Monetary value of the Iraqi dinar must revert to the previous level, or at least to acceptable levels as it is in the Iraqi neighboring states [ MOF Sept 2006]

High RV is like Coke; it’s the real thing baby!

If you go to this link below - it explains a little more, briefly. It is an interview with Hugh Tant on October 22nd 2004. Old I know, but interesting nevertheless.

    http://www.usip.org/library/oh/sops/iraq/sec/tant.pdf

The interview needs to be read in it's entirety but if you go to page 6 it states :-

"TANT : Now, with the new dinar, we have six denominations for the people. I understand that they're going to reestablish some coinage and perhaps two additional denominations, giving them a total of eight denominations plus coinage to continue progressing the currency situation."

    No timeline.

I can see what that tells me - anyone else's thoughts?

Also, there is $7-8 Billion in the Iraq Redevelopment Fund which is in the US Federal Reserve in NYC.. This amount is not included in the CBI Foreign Reserves yet.. Add it all up....IMF Reserves + CBI Reserves + Redelopment Fund = Probably $ 30 Billion or more....This doesn't even count Gold and in the ground Oil and NG Reserves...More than enough to stabilize at $3.22
