Why are some wealthy people so frugal?

Because wealth and frugality are related. You can become wealthy in very few general ways:

You can inherit;

You can invent something that people want to buy;

You can be amongst the most hard working, capable and talented at something people will pay for;

You can rent seek (use connections to take from others that which you do not deserve), or;
You can save and invest (live below your means).

As you can see, most of that list is not available to most people. One item, #5, is generally
available (this may be a bit of a USA truth, I cannot speak to other countries).

Bonus, if you live your life according to #5, then your children have a chance for #1.

Well, I disagree with you. It's a generalizing or even more bias. By the way, talking about old folk. Many of them have cool old cars like Shelby Cobra or Chevrolet Camaro. But they need classic car insurance for them. I want to have such a car actually.

I think that they become stingy because they have become so deep in their wealth that they have forgotten all kind of emotions.They hate on the poor people and think that they are their slaves. They need to understand that life is temporary. They should remain humble with their wealth.

I know many rich people. I couldn’t say that they are all modest, no. There are some who behave very indecently in society. There are people who do not look rich, behave quietly and inconspicuously.
So it is with people who are not very rich. Someone is quiet, afraid of saying too much, but someone has absolutely no conscience and behaves horribly.
No need to generalize, all people are different :)
