Any more thoughts on the dong? Still longterm?

All of the recent news points to some sort of action happening soon. Being a different currency, we all know a snails crawl is more then likely possible.

I called HSBC bank two days ago and the guy didn't know what Dongs were. I had to explain and then he tried to transfer me to the International Section. When, he came back, he said that they were too busy at that time to take my call. So, I asked, how he could not know about Dong's when HSBC has a big bank with branches in Viet Nam. What is your take on this fellow RC members? Nidya

My take is I wouldn't be a customer of a bank that would get on the phone with me during business hours and tell me that they don't have time to help me. What makes a customer, or possible customer, on the phone any less important than a customer at the desk?

Are we still waiting for year 2010 for the dong to move?

My husband thinks that it could suddenly revalue, or it could be waiting for the Iraqi dinar to rv and the Dong would do so at the same time. That is why he bought some.

It is unbelievable how slow Vietnam is with the R/V of the Dong. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? The country seems to be doing well!

You are so right! It has been three years since the first post on the Dong in this thread. It may be all wishful thinking on our part.
