Phase II of Operation Forward Together kicks off in Baghdad

The second phase of "Operation forward together" begins in Baghdad



Baghdad : Soldiers of the Iraqi security forces in MND-Baghdad, the second phase of the process forward together to increase security measures and reduce the violence in the Iraqi capital on Monday.

The process is a joint effort between the National Police, the Iraqi Army and Iraqi police and Iraqi MND-Baghdad, to reduce the level of killings, kidnappings, assassinations, terrorism and sectarian violence in the city and the restoration of government control of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

The second phase, supported by the Iraqi government by the joint forces of the Iraqi National Police Brigade combat team of the Fourth Infantry Division IV where clearing operations in Baghdad.

"We must reduce the level of violence in Baghdad which feeds sectarianism. Iraqi forces will help US forces and citizens in Baghdad by reducing violence, which struck the city of Samarra since the explosions. "

The second stage of the process forward together is to help the Iraqi government to reduce the level of violence in Baghdad and the follow-up success in the first stage of this process.

In the first phase, which began on July 9, security forces killed Iraqi MND-Baghdad and arrested 411 criminals involved in the work of death squads. The forces together more than 32382 combat patrol and confiscated more than 43 caches of arms and ammunition.

About 6000 troops additional security is sent to the area of MND-Baghdad to support the second stage, in addition to about 3500 soldiers from the brigade combat exports 172 based outside the Fort and Enright in Alaska. Served 2000 soldiers from the Second Brigade combat team armoured first stationed outside Bomholder in Germany as a reserve force since November.

Looks like info we got 2 weeks ago about extra security for Bagdad with 2nd objectives (reval) is happening.

The ongoing violence in Baghdad has prompted US commanders to reinforce troop strength in the city. Over the past weeks, a force expected to number nearly 12,000 has been assembling here to try to take the streets back from Sunni and Shia extremists.

A US. statement on Tuesday said about 6,000 additional Iraqi troops were being sent to the Baghdad area, along with 3,500 soldiers of 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team and 2,000 troops from the US. 1st Armored Division, which has served as the theater reserve force since November.

“We must dramatically reduce the level of violence in Baghdad that is fueling sectarianism,” said Maj. Gen. J.D. Thurman, commander of the coalition forces in Baghdad, where sectarian strife between Shias and Sunnis runs the highest.

“Iraqi and US. forces will help the citizens of Baghdad by reducing the violence that has plagued this city since the Samarra bombing,” Thurman said. “Iraqi and Multinational Division-Baghdad soldiers will not fail the Iraqi people.”

Excellent, kick some butts.

Interesting though, there was a post elsewhere saying there was a second reason for the troops to be there and that was to protect the banks with regards to a r/v.......

With the FIL hopefully passing tomorrow, numerous other rumours about dates ranging from the 13th to 24th including Dr Q's from different sources.

The meeting back in June saying they'd meet 'next month' to discuss the dinar value, the Kurds raring to go with their own FIL in place, the raising of gas prices, day to day living expenses, rent, all going up, the promise to pensioners from the MOF that they would be paid lump sums which should have been done by now........

The list goes on, what have I missed?! They HAVE to give something back to the people, they cannot go on as they have been for too much longer.

Kurds showing the way AGAIN. More and more of a divide. The Kurds want nothing more than to breakaway from the rest of the country......Why Maliki needs to get things pushed through asap including security and of course a r/v.

Iraqi Kurds publish draft oil law

Iraq's Kurdish autonomous region yesterday published a draft version of a law giving itself the right to control petroleum operations in its own territory and the disputed province of Kirkuk.

Addie, any chance they'll (the Kurds) want their own currency? Sorry to ask such an icky question, but it keeps rumbling around in the back of my mind.

kristin, nope, won't happen. The idea behind the new dinar introduced in October 03 was it was going to be a unified currency for the whole country. The Kurds know with a r/v how much oil and wealth they will receive with international companies investing there. They're happy to wait. With Iraq due to join the GCC in 2010 there will be 1 currency across the Arab countries, like the Euro across European countries, less UK thankfully! we don't want it.

Another reason why Iraq has to have a currency worth something by then or the conditions of the GCC will not allow them to join.

The rest of Iraq better get busy or they will be left behind.

Iraqi Kurds publish draft oil law

Iraq's Kurdish autonomous region yesterday published a draft version of a law giving itself the right to control petroleum operations in its own territory and the disputed province of Kirkuk.

A memorandum attached to the draft provided by the Kurdish regional government said a final version would be presented to the Kurdish parliament in September, and that it had also prepared a draft of a petroleum law for the entire country.The move seems intended to rekindle debate on an issue which appeared to have been temporarily shelved. Iraqi officials say they hope to pass a hydrocarbons law this year, but many observers believe that it will be postponed until 2007.The question of who controls oil exploration - whether it be Iraq's federal government or regions like Kurdistan - was dodged during the run-up to last year's constitution, which included vague language allowing the federal government to administer "current" fields provided it split revenues "in a fair manner" among the regions.

The more I think about this the more I'm leaning to think there really could be something in the fact the troops have 2 objectives in Baghdad. To curb trouble and wittle out the 'low lifes' and to guard the banks/dish out the new coins/notes for the r/v. A distinct possibility. Would also be something that noone would expect to happen and hence keep it quiet preventing a mad speculative rush for more dinars.

We'll know next week one way or the other!

Hi all,

I just have one question to ask you dinar people. If the IRAQI DINAR is going to peg sometimes around this August as speculated and I hope it'll happen, where can people outside of USA go and exchange their dinar since it is not yet officially recognised as a global currency?? Honestly, I have not yet purchase any Iraqi dinar myself because I can't afford it. I wished i have. I am just curious.

Possibly! More inclined to think next week. Everything is pointing that way.
